The Torchlight walk of San Fermo
The legend tells of Fermo and his brother and sister, who arrived in Valle Camonica with the army of Charlemagne: they were tired of war and battles, they decided to stop wandering and live like hermits in three different locations in the Valley. Fermo chose a mountain in Borno, which still bears his name. Since Fermo wanted to keep in touch with his brother and sister, he decided to communicate with them through a big bonfire, which could be seen from afar. Fire is therefore the main feature of this legend and also of this festival, which takes place every year on the 8th of August with many bonfires lit on the mountains and a spectacular torchlight walk by night organised by CAI (Italian Alpine Club).
